.Combining a love for fabrics, an eye for design and a
great sense of fashion are the foundation in which MIS
(pronounced like initials, m-i-s ) Fashion Bags were
created. The need and want by the consumer to be
unique yet fashionably chic and functional are part of the
equation for the growth of the business. MIS is an
independent label created by local fashion designer, Michelle Stupski. With a
background in Fashion and Interior Design, Michelle began creating a
collection of fashion handbags at her in home studio in Binghamton. "The first
bag I made was a diaper bag when I was pregnant with my first child, Derek.
In 1990 the choices in diaper bags were very limited and I wanted something
stylish to use. I received so many compliments on the bag that I continued to
use it as an every day bag". Many years later, with extra fabric lying around
from various sewing and interior design jobs, Michelle created a smaller
version of the original bag, now called the Signature Style. She then dove in
full force and had her first Fashion Show in November of 2004. Pleased with
the response Michelle took her profits to NYC for a fabric buying trip. "A long
with a vision, months of research, hard work, dedication, love and support
from my family, especially my husband Todd is what has gotten me to the
place I am today. My daughter Taylor completes the family affair by
participating as a model/dancer in the annual Fall Fashion Shows and
modeling for photo shoots used in advertising campaigns through out the
year.
Cutting the fabric from commercial patterns is not the route that MIS takes.
Only patterns made from Michelle's unique styles are used as the fabric
guides the way to the finished creative design. This concept helps to ensure
the guarantee of a one of a kind fashion bag collection. The goal of MIS is to
have women carry a bag that no one else will have. Due to the soft , non
structured design concept, "I feel that MIS Fashion Bags should be
considered more like a piece of clothing, an extension of your wardrobe and
your true style." It is also a great inexpensive way to update your wardrobe
according to the latest fashion trends with out having to buy the trendy
expensive clothing. All bags are individually handmade by Michelle with
unique designer flair and quality. Keep in mind that MIS Fashion Bags are
currently not mass-produced making each bag individually unique.
This year MIS has introduced another line labeled "The Poochie Boutique".
Designer doggie duds for the smaller dog breeds. The inspiration for this line
was the family dog "Jeter". A white bichon frise'. Project Runway from Bravo
TV labeled the smaller dogs "this years newest fashion accessory" so of
course you want your dog to look good, too. If your a real fashionista you can
buy a matching MIS Fashion Bag to go with your choice of a dogkerchief,
doggie coat or doggie cape but it may not be for everyone. There are sport
motifs as well as high end fabrics used in these items. The Poochie Boutique
items are exclusively available at Country Additions or the web site for MIS.
What are the future plans for MIS Fashion Bags ? Michelle is currently
meeting with people in NYC in regards to expanding the business into larger
market areas. Where will this go? "I don't know unless I try, but I would like to
eventually end up in some larger deparment stores as well as some specialty
boutiques throughout the U.S."
